Reliance Jio expected to launch 4G services by September

(Telecom arm of Reliance…)
NEW DELHI: Telecom arm of Reliance Industries, RJIL, is likely to launch its 4G services by September this year starting from Delhi and Mumbai.
"Reliance Jio is engaged in building up team for telecom services which is almost done. Telecom services are likely to be launched in third quarter of 2014 ie July-September period starting from Delhi and Mumbai," a source privy of the development said.
RIL has already announced in July that it will add 7,000 employees taking total headcount at company to 10,000 in 2014-15.
No immediate comments were received from the company. RIL may share details of services launch in June. RJio started first trial of its 4G services in Delhi, Mumbai and Jamnagar. The Department of Telecom has allocated 22 million numbers for launch of services.
The source added that company is evaluating devices of Korean firm Samsung and Chinese company ZTE for its customers.
After launching service in Delhi and Mumbai, the company has identified Southern part of India as high revenue generating market followed by West, North and East.
RJio during its trials has showcased broadband speed of 49 megabit per second--which is over 10-12 times more than 3G mobile internet speed that consumer are getting these days.
At a speed of 49 mbps an user can download a full movie, which is generally of 600 megabyte size, in about 2 minutes.
The average top speed of 3G network is pegged at 4 mbps. The company has prepared its network architecture plan under which it will provide booster antenna kind of device. This antenna will receive signal from mobile tower and a cable from this antenna connect a set-top-box or a modem kind of device inside home that will create wifi network for telecom service inside home.
The STB has been developed on Google's Android platform. Besides customer premise equipments, RJIL has plans to connect to those homes which won't get strong signals with optical fibre network.
RJio also has plans to launch TV services through its 4G network.
Gearing up to foray into TV services market, Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJIL) has loaded 150 channels that it will provide across all devices ranging from mobile phone to TV sets using its high speed 4G network.

HOW RELIANCE JIO / AIRTEL WILL DELPOY 4G NETWORK USING FDD-LTE(1800MHZ) & TD-LTE(2300MHZ) ?

Airtel Reliance Jio 4G LTEReliance Jio Infocomm’s primary focus is4G LTE and FTTH services. Pre auction, the biggest concern was Reliance Jio’s foray into telecoms and especially 900 MHz spectrum and 2G voice market. Reliance Jio has spent Rs111bn acquiring 1800 MHz spectrum of an average 5.6 MHz pair band across 14 circles in contiguous block. This will enable it to provide FDD LTE services along with TDD in 2300 MHz, including voice to non-RJIL networks. Likewise, Airtel has already rolled out 4G LTE Services in the 2300MHz band with CSFB Technology.
Our discussions with various Network Engineers suggested Reliance Hio Infocomm would opt for Circuit Switched Fall Back technology to manage the transition from LTE data networks and fall back to 2G / 3G network and terminate calls in non-RJIL networks. However, there would be a visible (as much as 4-6 seconds) time lag as customers switch from voice to data and vice versa.

Reliance Jio Infocomm is likely to first set up 1800 MHz of FDD network, which has already evolved more than TDD in the ecosystem globally, in both the network equipment and handset markets. More important, the prices of most of these handsets are still priced at above US$400, whereasFDD-LTE handsets are available at a lower ~US$300 price (non-subsidized).
So what happens to Reliance Jio’s 2300Mhz Spectrum now ? Remember this is a 20 Years license and eventually, Reliance Jio and airtel will deploy a mixture of both FDD-LTE in 1800Mhz and TD-LTE in 2300MHz as explained by the Qualcomm Block Diagram below which providesincremental efficiency in the growing era of mobile data.

Reliance 4G Jio kicks off ops with wi-fi in Ahmedabad

.

Reliance Jio Infocomm, Mukesh Ambani's ambitious telecom venture, has launched high-speed data services, with trial runs at eight hot spots in Ahmedabad.
The company is offering higher speed than 3G, but it is not clear whether it is a 4G service, experts said. These services were launched by Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi under e-nagar project on Wednesday.
The maximum downloading speed in 3G is up to 22 mbps, while the average downloading speed at these wi-fi spots is much above 40 mbps. Experts said in Ahmedabad 3G is offered at maximum speed of 22 mbps, while 4G is technically ten times faster.
"The services which Reliance Jio is offering in Ahmedabad are neither 4G nor 3G, but somewhere in between. We are offering data service at downloading speed of 40 mbps. This is a trial run launched by company for the first time in India. We are just testing and taking feedback from users and so the service is offered free for three months," said a technician who had come to take feedback of users at one of the hotspots in city on Thursday.
Reliance Industries or Reliance Jio officials are not willing to speak on the issue as of now.
The services have begun in the name of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) hot spots. The AMC officials, on condition of anonymity, said the services are offered by Reliance Jio so only they can speak on the issue.
Reacting to the development, an official of another telecom firm said, "Company cannot launch 4G directly so early, as country is yet to develop the ecosystem. There are over 400 mobile handset brands in India out of which probably one or two have 4G handsets. So probably the company wants to test it through wi-fi hotspots," said a circle head of one of the telecom companies.
According to an official of one of the leading telecom operators, "Reliance Jio is using wi-fi as last mile connectivity to provide high speed data. In this case, the data downloading cannot be as faster as 4G but it can be faster than 3G," he said.

Reliance JIO Infocomm 4G Mobile Number Series – All Telecom Circles
Reliance JIO has  acquired spectrum in 14 key circles across India in the 1800 MHz band in the recently concluded spectrum auction conducted by DoT. It has entered the voice segment (Voice over LTE) for the first time and bought more spectrum to offer that for around Rs 11,054 crore.
RJIL has acquired the 1800 MHz spectrum at 31% premium to reserve price. Winning bidders ofthe 900 MHz spectrum paid between 55% to 110% premium over the reserve price.
Reliance JIO (RJIL) plans to use this spectrum, ranging from 2×5 MHz to 2×7 MHz in each of these 14 circles, in conjunction with its pan India 2300 MHz 4G LTE spectrum to address the expected surge in demand for digital services as well as to enhance in-building coverage.  RJIL plans to provide seamless 4G services using FDD-LTE on 1800 MHz and TDD-LTE on 2300 MHz through an integrated ecosystem, company said in an official statement.
Reliance Jio plans to offer voice and high speed 4G data services on one technology standard to retail customers and to enterprises on another. The GSM 1800 MHz band spectrum that it has just purchased can be interchangeably used between second-generation voice services and 4G services.
RJIL is deploying an enhanced packet core network to create futuristic high capacity infrastructure to handle huge demand for data and voice. In addition to high speed data, the 4G network will provide voice services from / to non-RJIL networks.
According to Reliance JIO, there are several mobile phones and devices available today which have the capability to operate both TD-LTE and FD-LTE technologies in the 1800 MHz and 2300 MHz bands as well as conventional 2G / 3G networks. Rapid strides in global LTE rollouts and introduction of several new chipsets is making LTE enabled smart mobile phones and devices more affordable. In any case, Wi-Fi enabled 2G / 3G device can access RJIL’s services through an affordable pocket router.
